December 2025
11th January 2026With a good fall of snow, my first client of the year was treated to a proper winter's day in the hills, searching for mountain hares.
It was tough going, with the drifts being waist-deep in places, and me not being the tallest, meant I had to crawl over some of it to make any forward progress.
And seeing anything was hard too, as it was still snowing and yet bright, so just working out where the top of the snow was difficult, let alone seeing slopes or tracks from hares nigh on impossible.
But a pair of ears poking out of a dug-out form gave me all I needed to approach, and after taking our time, we managed to get close enough to the hare for a decent workshop.
The hare was so deep down in the snow, that we actually struggled to see anything it was doing. But occasionally it would poke its head up and out, and we could grab some images.
The first workshop of the year, and maybe the best wintery conditions for the year already, and provided the image for the month too.
